Excerpt from an animation/video response to the 1959 film, "Pull My Daisy". Artists were commissioned to complete installations in Allen Ginsberg's derelict former apartment in the East Village, NYC. The parts of the original film (Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Peter Orlovsky, Larry Rivers, Alice Neel, etc.) were recast, and a lose translation of the original narrative was filmed. "Early Morning in the Universe" is one of a series of video works resulting from this footage. The video questions the possibility of transcendence through the artistic process, through the lens of the bohemian Romanticism conventionally associated with the Beat Poets.
